JHA, Pre-Task Planning & Toolbox Talk Support

NSC Enterprises observers support your job hazard analyses, pre-task planning and toolbox talks under your program and your authority. They attend planning when asked, check that plans are on hand at the work, note where field conditions have drifted from the plan, and suggest toolbox-talk topics drawn from recent observations.

Planning documents only work when they describe the work that actually happens. NSC Enterprises observers support your JHA, pre-task planning and toolbox talk process, and note where field conditions have moved away from the plan.

  • Attendance at pre-task planning when requested
  • Checking that JHAs and pre-task plans are on hand at the work
  • Noting where tasks, crews or conditions differ from the plan
  • Flagging tasks that start before planning is complete

Toolbox talks

  • Support for toolbox talks on your schedule
  • Topics drawn from recent observations on your site
  • Attendance records kept in the format you use
  • Follow-up observations on the topics covered

In detail

Why the plan has to match the field

Employers are required to instruct each employee in recognizing and avoiding unsafe conditions. JHAs, pre-task plans and toolbox talks are how most contractors do that day to day, and they only work when they describe the work that is actually happening.
01

Before the task

Planning that reflects today's crew, scope and conditions.[1]

  • JHA or pre-task plan present at the work
  • Crew and scope match the plan
  • Tasks not started before planning is complete
02

After the talk

Follow-up that shows whether the message landed.

  • Topics drawn from recent observations
  • Attendance kept in your format
  • Follow-up observations on the topics covered

FAQ

JHA, Pre-Task Planning & Toolbox Talk Support: common questions

Will your observer write our JHAs?

No. Your program owns the JHA and pre-task documents and the methods in them. Observers support the process: they attend planning when asked, check plans are at the work, and note where the field has moved away from the plan.

Can observers lead toolbox talks?

They can support toolbox talks on your schedule and in your format, with topics drawn from recent observations on your site. Who leads the talk is set by your program.

What records do we get?

Notes on plan-versus-field gaps, topic suggestions for upcoming talks, and attendance records kept in the format you already use.
